After completing her second year at Central Michigan University, Chloe Majeske left for Layton, Utah to serve her mission through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
“For me, serving a mission has always been something that I've wanted to do,” Majeske said. “It was just a matter of when, especially during the pandemic.”
Since women in the Mormon church are able to go on their mission at the age of 19, Majeske originally planned to leave after her freshman year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic she started her 18-month mission in June of 2021.
Once her mission ends in January 2023, Majeske plans on working to save up until she begins school again. She will be coming back to CMU for the Fall 2023 semester and anticipates graduating in the Spring 2025 semester.
While at CMU, Majeske started her major in meteorology, a program with courses that must be completed in order.
“I won't be graduating with any of the people I started with and that was definitely one of the harder things about leaving, especially leaving halfway through being done with my major,” Majeske said. “(If I would have gone) after my freshman year, then I would have at least had another year with my friends. I would have been a sophomore while they are seniors.”
Although she won’t have her friends to come back, some things at CMU won’t change for Majeske, including her scholarships and the progress she’s made in the marching band.
“I was probably going to be in sectional leadership when I left,” Majeske said. “(The band director) said there is a leadership spot for me if I want when I come back. I have the things that I left, I can come back to, even if it's different people.”
